Genre: poems/ multicultural
Grades 3 and up
Synopsis: This is a book that connects poetry and culture. The poems are focused on holidays from around the world and are
celebrated in the different cultures.
My thoughts: A great way to
connect poetry and other cultures. In the end of the book they explain the
holidays and how they are celebrated. Students are not only able to learn more about the holidays they celebrate personally but of others as well. They are able to learn about their heritage and of their peers.
Post reading activity: Have
students do research on a holiday from their own culture and create a poem just
as the book did.
This book seems like it would be great when discussing different cultures or countries or even a unit on poetry. Thanks for the activity ideas!
